Competition

Welcome to the competition page of the Christchurch Animé Tribe. We have let ourselves slip of late and haven't run many competitions for a while. I'm hoping to keep up with an average of one competition a month.
Prizes are donated to the Tribe or bought on behalf of the Tribe from our petty cash.
To be eligible to enter competitions you need to be a paid member of the Anime Tribe unless otherwise specified.


WHO'S EYE? competition is CLOSED
This competition closed on Monday the 25th of Decmber; 2006 at 11:35pm.

To win this competition, contestants had to correctly name the character whose eye was depicted in a proposed poster design. This is the eye in question:

The eye belonged to Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis.
There were two correct entries so the winner was chosen publicly by a random draw.
The winner was Monogreen and he received aLast Exile poster.
Congratulations!


ANIME TRIBE 5th BIRTHDAY SPOT PRIZE competition is CLOSED
This competition was run at the party for the Christchurch Anime Tribe's 5th birthday, on 28th of October 2006.

The winning conditions were set at the start of the party but not revealed until afterwards.
The winner was the member who was seated at the smallest couch closest the TV during the showing of the film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (which turned out not to be shown until 4am!!)
The winner was Monogreen and he received 2 Final Fantasy Unlimited DVDs.

MATCH THE MALE ENGLISH VOICE ACTORS competition is CLOSED
This competition closed on Thursday the 25th of May; 2006 at 11:59pm.

Five English voice actors worked on these charcters...
This competition required contestants to match up the characters who have the same voice actor.

BEST BBS POST competition is CLOSED
This competition closed on Sunday the 9th of April; 2006 at 11:59pm.

It was a competition of many stages the first stage was posting.
From the 26th of March to the 9th of April, club members were invited to do their best work on our forums.
The next stage was submitting.
Until the 19th of April members were invited to submit up to 3 posts, that weren't their own work, to go into a poll to be voted on.
Some suggested merits were:
  • humour value (likely),
  • information content (possible),
  • cuteness (kawaii!! *_*),
  • violence (O_o;)
  • or any number of other attributes you like
The final stage was voting.
The poll for voting closed on May 7th and the winning post can be found here.

The winner of a sheet of metallic Full Metal Alchemist Stickers and a keyring of Ichigo from Bleach both from Japan and graciously donated by Ice_Kristall was Erebus.


PLAYSTATION ANIME TRIVIA competition is CLOSED
This competition closed on Thursday the 22nd of December; 2005 at 11:59pm.
You were required to answer the following 8 questions.
  1. Which anime film was packaged with the PS2 release "Hyper Street Fighter2"?
  2. Which character from Tekken 2 was eaten by a dinosaur in "Tekken; The Animated Movie"?
  3. Name the company that publishes the Gundam games for PS2 and other systems.
  4. What is the name of the female lead character from the Japanese roleplaying game "鋼鉄のガルーフレンド" based on the "Evangelion" TV series?

DUDE, THAT DUDE'S A DUDE!! competition is CLOSED
This competition closed on Thursday the 24th of November; 2005 at 11:59pm.
For each character in this picture I needed to know the gender, name and anime.
The answers were (left to right, top row first):

The winner of the God Child (Kaori Yuki) Memorial Art Seal, Saiyuki A4 Pencil Board and DNAngel A4 Pencil Board was Nyannichuan!!.
She was the only person to submit a completely correct entry. Omedetou gozaimasu!


SHOUNEN EYE competition is CLOSED
This competition closed on Thursday the 10th of November; 2005 at 11:59pm.
It required contestants to name the anime the boys in the picture, and state which anime they come from.
Three people had the same number of correct answers so we had a draw between Nyannichuan, Piezo and nightwlf.
The winner of 2 Mystical Detective Loki Ragnarok pencil boards and the 2 mini Loki Ragnarok folders was nightwlf.


SUGAR AND SPICE competition is CLOSED
This competition closed on Thursday the 27th of October; 2005 at 11:59pm.
It required contestants to name the anime the girls in the picture, and state which anime they come from.
Two people had the same number of correct answers so we had a draw between Donnagh and nightwlf.
The winner of a Fruits Basket Mouse Pad and the Memories DVD was nightwlf.


ANIME DVD REVIEW competition is CLOSED
THis competition closed on Thursday the 29th of September; 2005 at 11:59pm.
The idea of this is to put together some opinions on the anime DVDs that you can get in this country.
We wanted:
  • short reviews (200 words max) that people who don't know much about anime can understand
  • reviews on anime that can be bought in this country (consult the MadmanNZ if you aren't sure)
  • good spelling and grammar
The winners were Donnagh and Piezo and each took home a sealed Japanese pencil board of Love Hina. Congratulations!!


DESIGN AN EMPTY SPEECHBUBBLES MANGA competition is CLOSED
Entries closed Thursday the 23rd of December; 2004 at 11:59pm.
This competition was a quick one.
All you had to do is design an amusing comic strip with speech bubbles and no words.
Comic strips should be no bigger than an A4 page (100k file - gif is good for b/w) and can have anything from 1-12 cells (squares).
The winner was Emetic and I got him a prize that he finally collected at our 4th birthday bbq O_o


ANIME TRIBE BEST ANIME THEME poll is CLOSED
Entries closed Thursday the 22nd of July; 2004 at 11:59pm.
This competition is really simple.
Enter to go into the draw to win one of these prizes:
  • 1 of 3 FM radios
  • a Fruits Basket mouse pad
  • a Kuroneko sama pin (from Trigun)

Entrants submitted their 5 favourite anime intro songs to go into the draw to win prizes!
Each song will had an equal weighting in the final poll.

ANIME TRIBE HAIKU competition IS CLOSED
Entries closed Thursday the 18th of March; 2004 at 11:59pm.
Haiku is a formal, artful and beautiful form of poetry that we hope to pay homage to by way of our complete failure to grasp its intricacies.
The idea of the Haiku competition was to put together a haiku to do with anime or manga.
Haiku should have a three line format with syllable structure of 5, 7, 5. example:
Shinji runs away
Kind of typical I guess
He must be chicken

Entries were accpeted in either English or Japanese.
Two winning entries will were chosen.
The winners were Lil' Washu and Erebus who receive an Ah! My Goddess Poster and a Blue Gender mouse pad respectively.

DRESS UP NYAAAN competition IS CLOSED
Entries closed at 11:59pm on 26th February (2004).
The idea of this competition was to create an outfit or theme for our mascot, Nyaaan!
Five winners were be chosen for a free game pass each to Laser Strike.

HAIR! HAIR! competition IS CLOSED
Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 5th of February (2004).
Follow this link to find 12 heads of hair from stars of anime that have been watched by the Anime Tribe! The idea was to name the most hair and win a copy of Nadesico DVD volume 1 (Zone 4)!!
A high standard of entries was produced and two entries were entirely correct.
The overall winner was decided by flipping a silver dollar ^_^
The winner of the DVD is Nyannichuan!
A consolation prize of a set of Cyborg 009 postcards is awarded to Fang.


ANIMÉ TRIBE BBS - SPOT PRIZE competition IS CLOSED
The winner of this prize submitted their entry on 6th of December (2003).
The competition was (stealthily) posted on the 25th of November in the title bar of the Animé Tribe BBS.
The prize was to go to the first person who sent a Private Message to Erebus with the number of paid members in the Tribe at that time.
The winner of the spot prize was w00t!
He receives a Spirited Away video release poster as his prize.


WRITE AN ANIME FILK competition IS CLOSED
Entries for this competition closed at 11.59pm on Thursday the 30th of October (2003).
A Filk is a parody of an existing song written on a new theme, much like Weird Al Yankovic's music. Click here for an example.
Conditions were:
  • write a filk using a song and anime series of your choice
  • make a new title for your filk version
  • tell us the original title/artist of the song, and the anime you based it on
  • keep it clean, G rated please (medium levels of violence acceptable)
  • submit no more than three entries each
  • submit entries by email in plain text format
  • use an anime series that the tribe has previously (or is currently) viewing (for a list click here)
The winner of the filk competition was Morbid!
He received a Ghost in The Shell Figure as his prize.
He also sang all the entires at the Tribe birthday party. Thanks!!


DESIGN THE ANIMÉ TRIBE POSTER competition IS CLOSED
Entries for this competition closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 25th of September (2003).
The deal was this:
  • Design a colour, A4-sized poster to advertise the C.A.T! (Duh!)
  • Use original art or art used with the permission of the original artist or owner.
  • This NEED NOT BE THE FINAL DESIGN but may be a sketch of how the poster is to be laid out.
  • Use any slogans you like (within reason - avoid trademark infringement)
  • Keep it clean... nothing over a PG rating please ^_^
  • Enter as many times as you like!
Due to lack of interest this competition failed to get enough entries and will be run again at a later date...

THE ANIMÉ TRIBE QUARTERLY ISSUE 2 competition IS CLOSED
Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 24th of July (2003).
This contest was open to everyone! The idea of the contest was to:
  • name two of the characters pictured in our Quarterly fanzine
  • tell us which series or movie they came from
Nice and easy, huh?
The prize was 2 tickets to see the Cowboy Bebop Movie. This was showing for the International Film Festival at the Rialto on the 8th, 10th and 12th of August.
The winner of those tickets was Donnagh! who doesn't know when to give up!
If you want to win the next competition you know who you are trying to beat! ^_^

DESIGN THE ANIMÉ TRIBE T-SHIRT competition! IS CLOSED

Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 15th of May (2003).
The prize is one free T-Shirt with the winning design on it (of your choice of Baby Tee, long sleeved T-Shirt or regular T-Shirt).
  • Any person may enter the competition regardless of whether or not they are a Member of the Tribe.
  • Group submissions may be made, but the prize will still only be one T-shirt.
  • When you submit your entry please tell us what sort of shirt you want and what size you want it in.
For this competition you are required to make a design to go on a T-Shirt.
That design:
  • is going to be white print on a black T-Shirt (so black and white images are preferable to greyscale)
  • if designed on computer should be (preferably) a high resolution image (300-600 dpi?)
  • must be G rated
  • should contain no characters owned by another artist or company unless you have the specific permission of the owner of said character... (yes, you may use Nyaaan, the Animé Tribe Mascot).
  • should not be larger than A4 when printed
By submitting art for this competition you agree that your art may be freely used, reproduced or distributed as property of the Christchurch Animé Tribe.

DESIGN A CAT-GIRL competition! IS CLOSED

Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 27th of March (2003).
The prize was to be 2 posters; an A1 poster of Spriggan (donated by St*rfish) and an A2 poster from the series Ranma½. For this competition's requirements were to:
  • Design a Cat-Girl (or Boy if you prefer)
  • In 300-500 words provide particulars (including name, age, gender and backstory)
  • Provide a picture or two of your character.
Matters were made difficult for the judges of this competition by the over-all high standard of the entries. As a result no clear winner could be chosen and so instead of the original prize it has been decided that each of the two winning entries should receive a $15 voucher to be redeemed at Comics Compulsion on Manchester Street.
The winners of these vouchers are (in alphabetical order) Donnagh and Piezo Dragon!!
Congratulations to the winners and lots of thanks to the other entrants who put in so much time into their entries.


WARPED PHOTOS competition! IS CLOSED

Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 27th of February (2003).

The idea of the competition is to take a look at the pictures that have been editted and warped in Photoshop and guess which Tribe member is which!!
The winner of this competition is Donnagh! who had 6 correct guesses.
He won the first volume of Escaflowne (Zone 1 DVD), donated by Tarax!
Runners up were Sakura and Lucy Farr each with 5 correct guesses. Well done guys!


HOW I GOT INTO ANIME; ARTICLE competition! IS CLOSED

Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 13th of February (2003).
The idea of the competition is to write a short article entitled "How I Got Into Animé" that will appeal to the public, with a view to promoting animé in New Zealand. The article should be about 25 lines (200ish words) long with clear grammar and good spelling.
The winner of this competition is Tian!
The prize was a 50 piece jigsaw puzzle with characters from such series as Magic Knights Rayearth and Pokémon and two "Free Fries" vouchers from Burger King. He collected his prize on the 22nd of February.
The winning entry is intended to be published in the first Tribe magazine!


SPEECH BUBBLES competition! IS CLOSED

Entries closed at 11:59pm on Monday the 23th of December (2002).
The prize is a free pass to the showing of Spirited Away at the Rialto on that was going to be on Boxing Day (26th Dec).
The idea was to supply text to go in these speech bubbles!!
The winner of this competition is FANG!...
Unfortunately, this film was not released until April 3rd, but Fang got to see the film free when he accompanied us to the pre-screening on March 30th!

ANIMÉ FAN FICTION SHORT STORY IS CLOSED

Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 28th of November (2002).
The prize was Tenchi Muyo figure.
The overall winner, announced on the 1st of December, was St*rfish.
Entry will appear in the Christchurch Anime Tribe Quarterly for June 2003

Conditions were: Write a fan fiction piece using characters from your favourite animé series or movie.
Entries are limited to 1000 words (approximately just over 3 pages) maximum.
Fiction can contain characters or devices from more than one series/movie. Entries will be penalised for poor spelling and grammar.


Make a SHONEN CHARACTER IS CLOSED

Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 24th of October (2002).

Shonen literally means "boy" and refers to a genre of animé that is pitched more toward boys. It is primarily action driven, focussing less on the romantic interest, and and includes such series as DragonBall Z, Yu-Yu Hakusho, Zoids and Voltron.
The conditions were; design a character (male, female, robot or whatever) who would be in a shonen animé/manga.
Provide a character picture and description at least 200 words long including an outline of who they are and how they act.
We have a SHONEN JUMP magazine POSTER for the winner of this competition. Click here to take a peek at the prize.
The overall winner, announced on the 27th of October, was Liquid Shadow (Hayden). He received the Shonen Jump poster.


Make a MECHA! IS CLOSED

Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 12th of September (2002). The conditions were; design a Mecha, robot or hardsuit. Make it as detailed or as simplified as you like and provide an explanation of form and function 50-1000 words long.
There were 6 entries and due to the outsanding standard of work Sakura and I have decided to present "fnu-awards" to all competitors.

He received a $20 Voucher for Comics Compulsion.


Neko no Namae! IS CLOSED.

Entries closed at 11:59pm on Thursday the 22nd of August (2002).
There were 35 suggestions submitted for judging by 12 different members.
The cat has naw been named Nyaaan.
The winner, announced on the 8th of September, was Morbid (David).
He took home a $10 Voucher for Comics Compulsion.
